Ok, I know this belongs on my Crafty Blog But it was way too cool not to post here...
Veg has been asking for a new Tie Dye shirt since he's outgrown his other ones. And I just didn't' want to do the whole Dye thing....
Today it dawned on me that if we could make Dye free Play Dough, Surely we could make Dye free Tie Dye shirts...
And so I grabbed a plain white shirt of his, add a couple rubber bands, and filled up three plastic cups. one with Grape Juice, one with Cherry Juice and the other with Turmeric Powder mixed with water.
We dunked and doddled.... until we were happy with the colors...
And this was the final result:
An entirely cool, Dye Free Tie Dye shirt!!!
My plan is to let it sit for 7 days. Then try to wash with cold water only... My hope is the stains will set and keep at least SOME of the color.... Because I don't use Bleach washing detergent, I'm hopeful that the color will stay long enough for him to enjoy his new Tie Dye.
Anyone know how to purposely set a stain! ha ha... I'll keep you posted...
Ps. If this actually works we will be doing LOTS more of these... I'll even make one for myself... Going to try to mash up some Blueberries for mine.... and maybe mixing the blueberries with turmeric would give me green?

That is so cool

OOH, wonder if I rinse in cold water after a few days, and then throw it in the dryer? Would that set the stain for good??
Or totally ruin my dryer with colors as they bleed off?

Check out these sites. Even though one is talking about eggs the same dye might work for shirts.
