A few days ago, I opened the freezer for my morning smoothie to find all the ice was liquid.
Ruh Roh!!! I checked everything else in the freezer (which was very little by the way) and yup, All liquid!
Hmmmm? Did I leave the freezer open over night? Could that be??
Then I checked the fridge.. not real cold and the smell of dead fridge coming from it's opening.
Then I heard the "tick tick tick" Veg and I had to leave to start our day, so I put an R.I.P sign on the door and left a note to Hubs that there was a problem. Hubby decided to try an ice tray test, and confirmed that I didn't just leave the door open, the thing was tick tick ticking its way to Refrigerator grave yard (or recycling which we would find out later). After some cleaning of coils and moving stuff around Hubs gave it another trial to no avail.
The poor machine had chilled it's last bunch of kale.
Off to Refrigerator shopping we went. Can I tell you that this is NOT an easy task? It's been 14ish years since I had to pick out a fridge, and did not know my options.
But there was a little problem? We had limited space. The new one would have to fit here and under a hanging cabinet.
That space is odd shaped, not standard and a little off kilter... Size narrowed my search down considerably.
Then there was:
- Price
- Shelving, glass vs. wire
- Baskets vs. drawers,
- Good door seals vs. not so good seals.
- Color
- Freezer on the bottom or freezer on the top
- Energy efficiency
- And did I mention SIZE
Husband gave me the dimensions, I went to every open store in town to find said dimensions, and one that could be delivered this week. I finally came upon a store that fit such a demand, which had 3 options. All under 19 Cu feet.
I send Hubby with his trusty Tape Measure.. he orders the fridge that has everything I want to be delivered on Friday, and "Oh by the way, I went with the 24 Cu" he says.
<Ummm... that is awesome, but that can't be one of the 3 that I chose because it is too big>..
"It wasn't" he replies.
Nope.. He thought I would rather have the bigger one. Which again is awesome. But when the bigger one doesn't fit, where are we gonna put it, on the deck?
Fast forward to this day. The Fridge people call and say they will be arriving between 4 and 7pm but could be closer to 12pm. Hmm OK, so that means we stay home All day!
Husband ran around with his tape measure at this point panicking and second guessing. He realizes that giant fridge won't make it through front door, nor up the stairs, and definitely will NOT fit in the spot shown above. He is thinking of ways to cut down cabinets, he is determined and aggravated and and and... You get the idea.
Then our Fridge Guys arrive. They too had trusty measuring tapes, after 3 seconds decided that coming up the back of the house would work perfectly. They also said our space would be close but they can make it work.
AND THEY DID!
Hello shiny new fridge!!!
There is NO space, I mean NONE between the cabinets above, talk about CLOSE. It sticks out like 3-4 inches from the cabinet below and when you pull out the freezer it reaches in to the center of the kitchen, but it FIT. No construction or deconstruction happening today!
Man does this baby have some serious space:
Hello fruit and veggie haven!!!
The freezer has so much space I could get lost trying to reach for something.
We are being good to follow the instructions and not load it up until tomorrow.
But tomorrow... OOH Tomorrow I SHOP!!!
Can you tell I'm excited?
