Sorry for all the posts tonight, guess I'm making up for those I missed...Think this is the last one....
So my New try for the week.... BEETS:
Not sure what to do with this thing, I washed and scrubbed and then cut all the outside off... To find the purpley, red, supposed to be goodness in side...
The Supposedly goodnessy little root did this to my fingers:
And this, is what I got after my chopping frenzy:
OOH, they looked good.. They Smelled OK, They sure were pretty..... But Ummmmm..... Eating them raw... they kind of tasted like DIRT! Really, the smell of wet dirt on a rainy day.. That is what they tasted like.
Not sure what I did wrong, or if your just not supposed to eat them raw... But no one in the house would try them and I knew, this bowl would be all mine. Somehow, I had to overcome the Dirt taste... Because I wasn't going to get Purple Fingers for nothing.
So I put them in my salads all week with Vinegar'ish dressings... and that did the trick. I've also dropped some in smoothies (the boys didn't know.... *wink*) and ate a few just plain while munching....
Still not totally over the dirt taste. Yes they come from the ground. But so do carrots and potatoes... They don't taste like dirt. Did I just get a bad batch?
Not sure I will buy them again. Unless someone has a good recipe to try, I may have to chalk this one up to a not so good experience.
For now I have to get through 2 more of these things. So in the salad with vinegar they shall go.
Unless you have a tip... Anyone have Beet Tips? Please O Please!
