My friend sent me this link from Choosing Raw for Chai Smoothie.... And I've been thinking about making it ever since.
But the required spices to make the Chai mix, were not in my drawer, and the cost of them was a little out of my price range for a spice. As in $9.99 for a Jar. That is when I found the Bulk Spice/Herb section of our local health food store.
You grab exactly what you need and place in a little baggie or jar, label it, and pay at the cash register. I bagged some of them at 50 cents, and instead of $9.99, I paid $3 for the most expensive. Then I went home and mixed mixed mixed my little finds.
Stored in this old jar labeled appropriately as "Chai Mix".. It will likely last me many months.
Now... I'm not a Ginger fan, so I cut the portion of that one in half and it was still a little overbearing for me. Next time, I'll likely use even less of that...
Once I had the Chai Mix, I needed a yummy raw "Milk" but didn't have enough almonds to go with the recommended almond milk. I ended up making this great big jar of Hemp Seed Milk instead.. which worked just as well:
And then it was time for the Smoothie.. I already had frozen bananas, but I didn't have any Raw Almond Butter, so I had to use the jar kind with maple added. Which I think did the trick for me, as maple added just enough sweet.
Since I'm all about Green Smoothies, and can't really make a smoothie anymore without adding something green, I added Spinach to this one....
Here you are looking at 20 ounces of Pure Green Goodness...
Again, the ginger was a little strong for me... so I'll go lighter on the spice mix next time. But I will surely be making this again... as in LOTS of agains!!!
If this is something you decide to try, you'll definitely need to adjust the mix quantity to your liking. But it is soooo worth it! *smile*
And how cool to have my own little chai spice mix to make my own warm or cold drinks any day!!!
Thanks Again Choosing Raw for another great recipe keeper!!!
