Took the Vegkid to Henry Ford Museum last week. I'm pretty sure it is the first time I had ever been, and of course his first time too.
We were told that it would take all day to see the whole museum, but in our family, we pretty much go zoom zoom through every adventure we go on. Of course we stop when we'd like, but rarely spend too much time at any one exhibit no matter where we go. "Ooooh, that's cool, NEXT?"
Looking around, it seemed the "big kids" as in Adults were oohing and ahhing over every little thing. The little kids were sitting and playing with the toy trains. But Vegkid and I just went Zippity Zoop and saw every single exhibit in 2 hours and 15 minutes.
Which included, 2 bathroom stops, 2 store visits, a couple kids activities and a photo booth. We both had a great time. When asked he'll tell you he didn't like it so much, but that is all he has talked about since we've been home and even took something from there for show and tell. Sooooo, I think he liked it!
There were tons and tons of cool cars... this one was in parts but too cool!
Huge machines:
Lots of fun planes:
We could make our own planes and try to hit the target:
And the trains.... Oh my! This guy was a snow plow... very cool!
I think he looks like an Alligator. I know the pictures don't do justice to the size of everything, but it is amazing to see all this stuff IN DOORS! They are HUGE!
I couldn't get the Vegkid to work on cars, so he took a picture of me fixing this one:
All in all it was a nice day. The weather was perfect walking to and from the museum and the people were super friendly. The drive wasn't bad either and the town looked to be pretty neat. Will have to visit there next time to see the other museum (outdoor one) or maybe a factory tour.
There was an entire 70-80's section that had me cracking up. I'm not so sure I like the idea of my generation being in a museum already but I suppose we are antiques now. I even got to dance with Madonna on a green screen MTV thing. Veg just hid his face and walked away.
We saw Rosa Park's Bus, the Oscar Myer Weinermobile, Engines, Farm machines, Phones from the beginning of phones all the way to the iPhone (that was a cool exhibit), cargo trucks starting with wagons through modern day. Water, wind and solar power exhibits. Oh and Veg liked all the president's cars back through time. It really was a nice place.
The best part was, we picked a time of day when all the tours and field trips were gone. So we pretty much had free roaming.
We got many more pictures, but I forgot my camera so we were using Veg's of which he had the settings messed up. So most of them came out fuzzy until I figured out what the problem was.
Anyway, there is part two of our Michigan trip update!!
