We decided to pull out the the couch downstairs and tell silly stories before bed. I don't know why that spot was better then any other in the house, but it did seem to be fun for both of us. During one of his silly stories he began talking about dead fish that make fossils, and then he explained how he learned a little about fossils on a TV Show he watched with Daddy today. His version was this:
"A fishy dies and then it lays flat on a rock, the rock becomes a fossil that looks like the fish" he goes on to say "Poor Fishy"
After a few minutes he wondered what a Fossil Really was and could he see one... I explained a little about them and he said "Mom, some day can you teach me more" So I came over to the handy dandy computer and typed in "Fossil Crafts" not expecting to find anything.... OH BUT I DID!!! Imagine the excitement... I didn't even care that it was bed time, we just blew off the bed time routine and we made Fossils! Ours doesn't look as good as the picture above, but we had fun none-the-less. And what a great way to use old coffee grounds, etc. (Luckily, hubby had some in his coffee maker from this morning... which made the timing perfect)
Thanks to the Kidsdomain website and some other information on Fossils via the web, we were able to learn a ton. Not to mention have a little fun too. What a great way to end the night...
Click here to make your own Coffee Ground Fossils FYI - these also seem like a good way to make plain Rocks. I'm sure after being fully dried they could be painted and decorated???
