FLOPPY DISKS?

"Mom, what are these"  I hear as Veg is playing around near my old desk.  "Those are Floppy Disks!"  I reply...  "But they aren't floppy"  he says... Nope, they aren't... "And they aren't round like discs"....  HA, No they aren't.... And I go on to explain what a Floppy disk is....

"Can we try one?"  He asks?  Of course we can TRY one... Not sure it will work though... HaHa... My old PC does have a floppy drive, but when I stuck in the Floppy, it sputtered and laughed at me...  I was waiting for a sign on the screen to say "Hello, Dinosaurs don't belong in the house".... 

It sputters some more... Veg says "What is it doing?"  I explained that my computer didn't seem to like those floppies....  and of course he didn't like that answer, so this turned in to a 10 minute discussion..."Oh, I get it" he says with a gleam in his eye...."Those disks are old like you so they just don't work anymore".... Hmmmmm!!!!  Yup, and I bet they've lost their memory like me too....

So, Guess what I was trying to play for him...  Remember the Dancing Baby... ha ha... Here he is again in case you forgot!  Thanks Youtube!

NO COMPUTER!!

I'm supposed to be getting a new work computer due to circumstances beyond my control... Frankly I like my dinosaur and it works just fine.  I don't want to have to get used to another machine and start all over and load all the programs and...... blah blah blah...  but alas... A new computer, I must get.

And this time, I do have to load all my own programs which means another 1/2 day of actual work gone... but thats another story...

So I work late Wed. night tie up some loose ends and say good bye to my computer, leaving it in a room all by its lonesome to be retrieved the next day.... I left the building with NO computer in my bag... it was a very strange feeling! 

Yesterday I enjoyed the day with my kiddo and we had lots of fun, so there was little thought of the missing computer.  I even used my personal PC for blogging, so it wasn't too bad.  But this morning when I arrived at work to find my new computer still not there... I started to have a panic attack.  Could I make it another day without that machine?  After all, it contained every file, every contact, every calendar item...I was LOST!!! 

And then I remembered my Silver-Berry friend... So now you can picture little ol' me.....sitting in my office chair facing my giant desk with nothing on it, while typing away on my Silver-Berry for over 4hrs...  Only to find that my new computer was still not ready to be picked up.... so I had to go pick up my old computer....

Isn't it sad what technology has done to us....  So many wonderful things and yet soo much dependence on things that can crash any day.
